As the restrictions of COVID-19 continue, it’s apparent that if we are to survivee as one of Chicagoland’s finest magic clubs, we have to stay safe by continuing to meet via Zoom. If you’re like me, hardly a day goes by with invitations to click on a Zoom meeting offering all sorts of magical wonders. This is all well and good but after viewing all the fantastic tricks, illusions, and magical wonders, there’s only so much one can absorb.
Even if you were to learn just one new trick out of the hundreds that we are bombarded with, who do you have to show it to? As a club member, we at least have each other to fool, even if it’s on Zoom. For our next Zoom meeting, I’m asking you to give some thought to presenting a trick that you’ve learned at a Zoom session or an effect that you’ve worked on from a book that you finally got around to reading.
I hope everyone is doing O.K. and maintaining their sanity? Even though
it's almost the night before Christmas, let's get together just for the
sake of keeping the club alive, albeit by Zoom. Recent news about the
COVID-19 vaccine may mean we'll be able to venture to Ed & Joe's to
resume our regular meetings sometime in the future.
For those of us who are not burned out by Zoom lectures and Zoom
meetings, let's put our thinking caps on and try to remember our very
first magic trick. You might tell a little about its history of where
you first learned it and how it may have sparked your interest. Perhaps
it wasn't a trick that got you hooked but rather a magic performance. Or
maybe you purchased an effect and are having trouble making it work.
Regardless, let's share some stories about your particular interest or
need for help.
We'll meet via Zoom on Wednesday, December 23rd, 7:00 P.M.
Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas to all,
Don Wiberg
